Re: If you are born AGAIN you might get a private jet!

Sorry, but no matter who the person is, commenting negatively on a persons appearance is just not cool. Show a better standard here people.

Re: Unconditional Positive Regard

Cunt, with a username like that it sounds as if I disrespect you :) Anyways - I think you misunderstood my point there. You see, it is possible for a professional to really care about people he helps, and be affected when something happens to them (either positive or negative). But think twice befor...

Re: The pointlesness of trying to support religion with scie

I also do not find circumcision on males acceptable when the subject has no real choice in the matter. However, circumcision of young boys, performed in a sterile and professional environment doesn't nearly cause the amount of trouble for the boys as removing the clitoris does for girls.

Re: Unconditional Positive Regard

I get the UPR bit within the professional environment. I think most of us can agree that unconditional positive regard is a really bad idea on a personal level. Some people are better out of your life then in. Also, personal relationships rely on balance. When someone is only 'taking' and the other ...

Re: Before you buy an extended warranty...

Here is also an interesting thing for those living in the Netherlands. Here is a nifty law that if a product breaks within it's reasonable lifespan, the manufacturer has to repair or replace it for free. This reasonable lifespan varies per product. However, after the initial warranty you have might ...

Re: Why do governments prohibit drugs?

As for softdrugs, I indeed do not understand why it has been banned. As for harddrugs, I can kinda understand. You can get addicted to them quickly to many of them, and they really affect your functioning when using small amounts and can pose a serious health risk. After all, heavy medicins are also...

Re: The pointlesness of trying to support religion with scie

The problem with tampering with the female genetalia is that mostly, there is no real choice involved. Most of these women are poor, and rely upon the community to survive. They often have little to no education and can not take care of themselves, especially if others shun them. So they either have...

Re: Creationist cartoons: about as funny as a prolapsed rect

Oh another thing I noticed; I went to the website and looked at some more of these cartoons. Some are unintentionally funny as you keep looking at them and think about it with an atheist perspective.

wow...my toes just curled and I cringed when reading these comics.
On the other hand, at least they are attempting humor, which is a step forward I think.

Re: Toward a New Foundation

I like the idea of a forum to create a library of for laymen accessible science sources, however I don't know how many other places also try to foster this. Now I think it, isn't talkorigins a bit like this? What may help is this: Make sure that you keep the great minds of the old forum with you, li...

Re: Anyone with experience of writing press releases?

While I can certainly understand why you do this and feel sympathy for it, I am not sure if it is a good idea. Maybe its best if the discussion will just die down. A press release will invite another reaction from the other side, the websites will keep on reporting about it, and the conflict will ju...

Re: First reaction by Richard Dawkins.

You know...I can actually sort of understand him. I mean Dawkins. Think of it...he doesn't really know us, as he hasn't posted much on the forum. He just knows there is a forum out there attached to the website bearing his name, and with some luck he knows that it was quite a busy place. Then his fr...

Do we want topics reposted here?

I was just thinking that we had some awesome topics and stickies going on at RD.net, and when they are going to be deleted, it would be a great loss. Would it be a good idea to copy some of these threads and put them here? One that really sticks out for me are Durro's posts about the treatment of wo...

Re: OPEN LETTER TO RICHARD DAWKINS

I've been reading the post and following up the links in this thread...and wow...I didn't know it was this bad. I just stumbled in when someone emailed me the link of this forum (I'm very grateful to this person). I guess I'll just stick with this forum then.
