Re: Critique My Philosophy of Life?
What I find missing, ( as criticism is invited ) is the realisation that none of it matters. You're born. You die. You might just as well have never existed. See "Afterlife skepticism" (page 2), "Existential skepticism" (page 4), "Realization that change is the only constant" (pages 7-8), and "Reco...

Re: Critique My Philosophy of Life?
I have not yet learned formal techniques of meditation (such as those practiced by Buddhists), but I plan to take my own advice and do so. This is the only significant piece of my own advice that I have not yet implemented personally. Ah. I should tell you that FBM stands for "Former Buddhist Monk....

Re: Critique My Philosophy of Life?
No sweat. I find it very interesting. Since you mentioned meditation, I'm wondering what sort you either practice or recommend. There are various practices and objects of meditation. I've found meditating on the inevitability of death to be very helpful, for example. Yes, I have found meditating on...

Re: Critique My Philosophy of Life?
I read through it and found quite a bit, practically everything, agreeable. After reading a bit, I wasn't surprised to find references to Epicurus, the Buddha and CBT. It looks like a fairly robust and comprehensive approach. It would be a bit presumptuous for me to suggest any constructive critici...

Re: Critique My Philosophy of Life?
Comprehensive, well structured list of what you believe. I see not much more than that, but then, I have only read the first half of the document and skimmed through the second. Lot's of "I believe" in the first few pages. Maybe change the title from My Philosophy to something like Manifesto or Cre...

Please feel free to critique any part of my philosophy in depth. I choose to post the entire document because it is an integrated whole.Svartalf wrote:in depth might be a better way than number of critiques, no?

Re: Critique My Philosophy of Life?
He did a drive by on Ratskep too :hehe: I admit I had suspicions which were confirmed upon googling the thread title. Not saying you must, Philosofer, but you may do better if you hang around and chat about other things as well. You know we have copious supplies of cheese and bacon here? Thank you ...

Re: Critique My Philosophy of Life?
Welcome Philosofer! Interesting first post... I've had a glance at your document and I'll probably read more if I've got the time. One thing I would tend to disagree with is your moral and existential skepticism, but I'm not exactly on firm ground there yet so I'm more than open to being persuaded....

Critique My Philosophy of Life?
Over the past few years, I have formulated my philosophy of life, a 13-page document that may be found at either of the following links: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0Byh6JnTg3RMecHhxV0pYeklqV0U/edit?usp=sharing http://www.scribd.com/doc/183418623/My-Philosophy-of-Life In the first half of the doc...
