Hitler, Nazism and the British

Post by Lozzer » Fri Sep 02, 2011 2:24 pm

What did Hitler 'think' about the British? Did he consider Britons to be 'ethnically Aryan', as he did Nordic peoples and the Germans?

I've heard it said that he considered the British Empire and Catholic church to be essential entities in maintaining world stability.

What would have occurred to the British populace had he invaded, and conquered?

As we're mongrel dogs and not pure Germanic blood, I expect we'd have been all sent to forced labour camps.

We're of Nordic and Saxon origin, though :levi:

Oh I get it.... you're suggesting we (as in the English presumably) have only Nordic/Germanic blood?

I'd post you a long list of links that would prove you wrong, but I really can't be bothered.

In 'Mein Kempt' Hitler makes several references to the British and how he wanted the German people to be more British. He seems to have liked and admired us.

He did consider us 'Anglo-Saxon' and this as far as he was concerned made us 'high ranking' racially, though of course not as high as the Aryan race. His plan was to put us in charge of the 'inferior races' as servants or managers ourselves.

After 1933 (when he came to power) he had loads of meetings with British Diplomats trying to forge an Anglo-German treaty, mainly focused against Russia.

'We' never considered it, but we did sign a couple of treaties with a hoped for result that Hitler would recognise Poland's right to exist.

It seems clear that after he kicked the the whole thing off he thought we were to aloof to get involved. He didn't think we would declare war apparently.

In 1940 he communicated via the Swiss and offered Britain very generous peace terms which of course Churchill refused.

No, I'm not. Hitler thought along those lines in terms of his ethnic philosophy, though.

So, if the Germans hadn't been so successful in Belgium/Northern France Chamberlain might still have been in office when Hitler offered peace. I love history.

That's my understanding too. And if he can make the Japanese "honorary Aryans", quibbles after a smattering of French blood could be easily ignored.

We had a big empire too. He probably liked some of our 'methods'. We didn't play nice despite liking to think we did.

The British Empire always played nice. They just got to decide what "nice" meant at any one time. :read:

He generally makes many humble observations about the empire, mainly regarding its foreign policy and economic/military strategies. He says that the British propaganda machine of the first world war was inspiring.
