Wrong?...or right?

Post by Rum » Wed Nov 14, 2012 8:11 am

My instinct would normally be on seeing these colourised pictures - 'WRONG'! ..but actually they bring some of these people to life in unexpected ways. So I am going with a small 'right'...

I guess the main question is historical accuracy, and whether subtle biases may creep in...

Doesn't Lincoln look totally wasted?

Not "wrong" or "right" but "interesting". Done well, these are no different to seeing a painting - there's artistic interpretation going on, and so long as the origins aren't lost it doesn't really matter.

"The camera never lies" was only true for about 100 years!

I'd like to see them try and fix old camera footage from back in the days where there were only a few frames per second, and everyone walked funny. It should be easy enough to smooth out the animation using modern technology.

I say right. Those colourisations are done really well. I love Winston's close up!

I also say great.
Scientists use false colour to bring all kinds of photos to life, and emphasize differences. The human eye can see more if it is in colour, so why not go for it.
For every human action, there is a rationalisation and a reason. Only sometimes do they coincide.

I probably should know more of these. old merkin president?, einstein, dead joo, bang, boat, bodies, same random people interspersed with another bang, hitchcock churchill and darwin with some random dude between them
Outside the ordered universe is that amorphous blight of nethermost confusion which blasphemes and bubbles at the center of all infinity—the boundless daemon sultan Azathoth, whose name no lips dare speak aloud, and who gnaws hungrily in inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond time and space amidst the muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes.
