Some live footage of a B-29 ditching in 1945, along with the subsequent rescue. The commentary on the YouTube page tells the story.

Interesting. If I'd watch it again, it would be with the sound muted, mind. Yeesh.Calilasseia wrote:Some live footage of a B-29 ditching in 1945, along with the subsequent rescue. The commentary on the YouTube page tells the story.
Also, I smiled at your description of the footage as "live"; as if a portal in time were allowing for live access. That'd be cool for key moments during the war.

I wondered why they'd cut out the splash-down until I saw she'd snapped. Tail was a tad too low for that landing. But hey, any landing you swim away from is a good one.

According to the blurb, they went from 100 mph to 0 in less than a plane length. Ouch.
Great footage, great story.

Somewhere there's footage of SF coming in wheels up on Tinian. The plane swerves left and the wing-tip come out over the edge of the run. The plane comes straight at the camera and then the footage stops. A note is then shown saying that the cameraman was killed. I'm not sure I want to film my own death, but that was awesome.klr wrote:According to the blurb, they went from 100 mph to 0 in less than a plane length. Ouch.
