The Prodigy - Invaders Must Die

Post by Pappa » Mon Jun 22, 2009 12:11 am

I got a copy of The Prodigy's new album today ("Invaders Must Die"). I've listened to it over about 4 times, mostly really fucking loud in the car, and it suddenly struck me. This music isn't dance music, it's punk, just using a slightly different medium.

Does that make sense?

Perfect sense - they always have been.

And they NEED to be loud.

Thing is... punk was never a unified musical style anyway, it was a total hodgepodge that later got stereotyped from the outside as essentially sounding like the Sex Pistols. Besides, The Prodigy came to 'dance music' via the DIY Culture / Illegal Rave scene, so they never sat well as 'dance'. All that DIY/Rave stuff embodies the spirit of punk.

Anyway, what a fucking fantastic album. It's been searing into my brain ever since I got my hands on it.

I will purchase it. "Fat of the Land" is a classic LP.

I am listening to Invaders Must Die right now. It is the bollocks!! I was a little disappointed with Always Outnumbered... but this album fulfills all of my Prodigy needs so far.

In fact, it is almost back to the style of the first album in places, although with far more polish.

Notice... track 2 (I think) they've sampled one of their own tracks from some time ago (I couldn't place which one though).

For me, this album is a lot like "Music for the Jilted Generation" but more beterer.
