I thought he was brilliant in his early days, a great song writer.
“I wish no harm to any human being, but I, as one man, am going to exercise my freedom of speech. No human being on the face of the earth, no government is going to take from me my right to speak, my right to protest against wrong, my right to do everything that is for the benefit of mankind. I am not here, then, as the accused; I am here as the accuser of capitalism dripping with blood from head to foot.”

John Maclean (Scottish socialist) speech from the Dock 1918.

I like Bob Dylan.

It's a bit like Hendrix - shitty singer, but the voice suits the style.

Stevie Nick would have been his voice if there was a god.

Stevie Nix can find a hole to fall down.

In one of Dylan's early songs, he actually sings quite well. Dunno why he didn't continue on with that. Funny thing is, though, his awkward voice kinda gives his singing more power, more urgency, more charm even. Roger Waters doesn't sing well either, but his songs may be stronger despite or even because of it.
There's this band I like called Arcade Fire. Same deal. Singer's voice is a little off. Not what you'd call a good singing voice at all. And yet it gives me the shivers every time I hear him.
People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.

But those letters are not silent.

They're just waiting their turn.

Blood on the Tracks is my favorite Dylan album. It's well produced and they managed to get his voice pretty smooth. Jack of Hearts is a great little story told in song.

Blame it on the cigarettes. When he abstained for a while in the late 1960's, the change in his voice (on Nashville Skyline) was remarkable. But then he went back on the ciggies again, and can hardly speak now.
