They're both talented bands in what they do, it's just a different type of talent, more focused on songwriting and attitude than instrumental talent. Actually... Anyone who listens to more than just metal appreciates them too, it's just the close-minded elitists.JasonK wrote:Well yeah... Re: Is This The Best Band Of All Time?
Oddly, that doesn't seem to be true as I listen to everything from Classical to jazz, industrial, metal, some country, opera, psych rock, etc etc etc.... and I grew up on mostly punk. But no, I don't see any talent whatsoever in Nickleback... Jon BJ has a good voice, I'll give him that, but I don't appreciate the band.FrigidSymphony wrote:They're both talented bands in what they do, it's just a different type of talent, more focused on songwriting and attitude than instrumental talent. But it's awesome to see Oblivion and Divinations in your Last.fm... even if it does make me want to vomit due to the itunes skin....

I'm not stereotyping... I guess all I'm saying is that I appreciate a band that can write 10 catchy as hell kickass songs on each album. I listen to everything too, and I enjoy indulging in shallow pop based music occasionally.JasonK wrote:Oddly, that doesn't seem to be true as I listen to everything from Classical to jazz, industrial, metal, some country, opera, psych rock, etc etc etc.... and I grew up on mostly punk. And yeah, I just found the album and it's great, have yet to listen to the whole thing though...

My personal fav is The Czar: Usurper/Escape/Martyr/Spiral as it just goes.... everywhere.
Crack the Skye itself just rages with emotion, which is awesome when you learn the concept of the album.
and then The Last Baron is just a technical masterpiece.

Absolutely. But in more of a metaphorical sense. That's why the song Crack the Skye is so powerful. You can feel Brann's anger, sadness and agony.FrigidSymphony wrote:It's about his sister's suicide at 14, right?

Because the people who don't like metal would like to say 'thats all shit, It's just noise, I can't hear the words ' etc
BUT as all the best people love the

Give me the wine , I don't need the bread

If I gave an opinion on something I know nothing about, wouldn't that make me a twat?FrigidSymphony wrote:Why does everyone else stop posting as soon the discussion turns to metal bands??
I only do 'easy' rock and honestly don't understand tha appeal of shouting to music. I can remember thinking "this would be a good track if someone weren't shouting all over it" but can't remember which band it was. (Might it have been System Of A Down?)
Bloody Greta Garbo

+1.JasonK wrote:The Stones have a few good songs.
However, if I saved my next four bowel movements in mason jars, I'd have produced a better band than The Beatles. Talk about the most highly overrated band of all time.(Sorry, Tatt, I love you!) Nothing salvageable from their entire discography, in my opinion.
And the best band of all time is clearly Fugazi.
Or maybe Mayhem...
I've opened a thread about this on RD.net before. I think the Beatles are inoffensive and dull. They're the musical equivalent of a movie you'd take a girl to. At least The Rolling Stones had a big pair of balls not the mincy, oestrogen laden pistachio nuts the Beatles had. I need my music to be either fueled by testosterone and/or pain, tear your face off pain, whatever genre it just happens to be. Or if not that then full of pride and glory like Beethoven and Wagner or stark energy like Vanessa Mae. What have the Beatles got? Clappy hands songs for little girls (that includes girls of the male variety 'cause like Ice-T say, 'some of y'alll niggas is bitches too).

I've been listening to that album all week it's fucking amazing. I can't wait to see them in Marly Park this summer when they play with Metallica, Alice in Chains, Thin Lizzy? The Sword, Lamb of God and em.. Was it you who hadn't heard of Lamb of God? If so, what do you think of them now?
