George Michael

Shockingly overreated and excruciatingly annoying voice.

Oh, and I was at the Freddie Mercury concert in 1992 - he claims to have "stolen the show". Funny that loads of us went for a beer when he came on and the rest said he was shit. The only reason everyone sang along to "Somebody to Love" was that it was a Queen song and we were ...er...Queen fans. In actual fact, the much maligned Roger Daltrey stole the show.

So, what's he been up to these days?
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

Peculiar. First, is George Michael highly regarded in Britain? Because he's a joke over here. Conversely, is Roger Daltry not well regarded over there? Because he's well thought of here
People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.

But those letters are not silent.

They're just waiting their turn.

Roger Daltrey is revered, but he got a bad press at the Freddie Mercury concert in 1992 - I don't think he came over that well on TV, but at Wembley he was fucking mind-blowing - the best front man I have ever seen or heard. George Michael was just a tit - his version of "Somebody to love" completely missed the point. It was whiny and self-pitying, whereas the original was like a hope filled prayer, as if Freddie Mercury was talking himself out of a rut.

It's the same phenomenon as Whitney Houston's atrocious version of "I will always loves you" - she just piles through it with her sledgehammer voice, while Dolly Parton's beautiful angst-filled version is just so full of soul and character.

I saw the Who live in the Demontford Hall in Leicester in 1970. They were fantastic, but at the time you may remember that they had recently been associated with the mod youth sub-culture, which was in fact fading at the time.

A biker gang didn't think so though and a pile of them - twenty or thirty turned up to the gig and created mayhem. They beat up a few people and then a group of them climbed up on the lighting gantry around the stage an pissed on the audience!

The Who loved it!

Those were the days...
