So what happens now? Isn't it too late to negotiate and vote on another deal? Will she go for an extension on Article 50?

I'm supposing that the EU will not budge an inch if May wants a changed deal in the next few days to put to Parliament...

Or have I got the impression of a more rigid EU than the reality via Scot?
You are correct in your assumption about SD.

There is no new deal on offer but there could well be ‘clarification’, letters of commitment and so on. The key sticking point concerns the potential for a hard border on the island of Ireland. I suspect if that can be resolved the rest will follow. It is however not an easy issue to resolve.

Perhaps. Perhaps an extension to the Article 50 period. If enough Tories back a no-confidence vote then it's general election time, or Mrs May might step down as leader of her party and Conservative MPs can shoehorn someone else in quick to avoid a lengthy hustings among the electorate. This might unite her party breifly,, but the divisions over btexit will still remain - it would basically amount to having it away on her trotters, like Cameron. PrimeJohnson - your time is nigh.

I'd be surprised if Corbyn would want the PMship at the moment. It's a poisoned chalice. Corbyn doesn't have any better plan than May.

The European Parliament is elected in May. How can you extend the Aricle 50 proceedings when the UK would have to organize their EU Parliament election to remain longer than May...

Can’t see it. May has a very strong sense of duty (yes really) and she has acted on it so far, if rather unimaginatively , in a way to keep things as stable as she can in the circumstances. She might be forced out in some scenario I can’t figure at the moment, but she won’t go easily because she’s knows chaos will ensue.

She’s in a shit place and I don’t envy her. I can’t imagine what the up side of being PM. might be at this point.

I forgot to mention that a second referendum might still come in to play too.

The EU will not move a millimetre. Especially after this vote. The ball is in May's court and she cant play it.
Expect Spain and Ireland to increase pressure. This is not going to be nice or pretty. I have been watching all three neighbouring countries. They dont understand why she has not fallen on her sword. She is a dead duck.
The EU will only raise the demands. She has taken the UK to the sacrificial place. Pure arrogance has resulted in this. Welcome to third country status. It is not a pleasant place. I am not joking and even our Minister President who has done his best to support her declared his total frustration does not know what there is further to be done.

It is such a mess no one could have ever predicted this. Well I did. The Brexiteers have never understood how the EU operates.

Some Tory wag was just on the radio trying to put a positive spin on the government's historic defeat in the Commons last night - the biggest Parliamentary defeat of a sitting government in anyone's lifetime. With an eye for the main chance this anonymous mouthpiece has just said that, in light of the Commons rejection of the negotiated deal, "What the Prime Minister needs to do now is take back control." As we've noted before, if Brexit was about securing British sovereignty (which was, after all, just another slogan) then it surely means securing the sovereignty of Parliament on behalf of the British people, not granting sovereign powers to the Prime Minister on behalf of her party or herself.
