I have to say I don't have an
ounce gramme of sympathy for them. Wait until the age goes up again to 65 in a few years time ...

Christ, some folks want to raise our retirement age here in the States to 70....and we are all but assured that it will initially jump to 67.....

we're already in the top 5 productive workers per man hour on this planet, we already worked hard for that retirement, they have no right to make sure we'll die of exhaustion before we retire.

They set it at 60 in the first place. Why not 55 or 59? Why not 61 or 62?
You have a "right" to a retirement age of 60?

You work like fuck for both of the hours you are in work I will give you that

We have a right to stop working when we're too tired and have paid many years in the system already. Maybe it doesn't work this way your side, but here, every worker gets some of his wages shaved off and sent to pension fund. We pay in, we have a right to get the payout.

Same here but the retirement age is 67. Chances are I won't see any of it

A right to stop working when you're too tired? Shit...If I was in France I'd only hire people who were in good physical shape, because I have a right not to pay people who suck at working.

How many years? Isn't it the number of years the government tells you is fair?

At 60? Why not 59? 61?

Whaddya know, I'm 100% with you on this one. A little while back they were rioting about the full-time work week going up to 37 hours or something like that.
I think most people in France understand the inevitable: that the retirement age is going to have to go up. But everybody gets bitchy when they hear that they're going to have to work more.

What we really can't digest is the gummint making life harder on the masses while still doing a lot to ease it on those who have all the money... just think we could do a lot toward reimbursing the national debt by confiscating all assets from donors to the UMP party.

I thought that you enlightened ones had already figured out how to equitably distribute wealth, and that everyone was taken care of over there. No poverty, because you've nationalized health care and have socialism, which provides for everyone's needs.
Heck - you've got what you need. Now give in accordance with your ability to give. You've been gettin' off light these last few decades. Time to give back to the State that's cared for you.....

I am 100% behind the French. Their workers, whether they consciously know it or not, are trying to protect something great about France and that is the notion that work is not life and life is not work. Life is and should be a balance. The world is being increasingly overtaken by international capitalism, which is driving down wages in its relentless pursuit of profit. In that process, as is easily evidenced the rich are getting richer and the poor even poorer. The French 'social culture' is naturally socialist (far more left as a whole than most other non French people realise!) and they rebel at this notion. Its in their DNA!
Tomorrow in the UK the so called comprehensive spending review is announced. Its main purpose is to get the UK back into 'credit worthiness'. The people who got us there in the first place? Workers? The average mortgage slave? No. The people who own most of stuff. Fucking wake up people.
