Brown set to go out with a bang!

Post by Xamonas Chegwé » Tue Jun 09, 2009 6:35 pm

I think it's pretty obvious that Labour are going to get thumped at the next election. however, they may well get thumped in a completely different way than any government in history. Plans for electoral reform, including a fully-elected house of lords are being unveiled! interesting stuff.

Sounds like they plan on adopting a system similar to what we use over here, the single transferrable vote. If they do your next election is going to be fun. :banghead:

The world is a thing of utter inordinate complexity and richness and strangeness that is absolutely awesome. I mean the idea that such complexity can arise not only out of such simplicity, but probably absolutely out of nothing, is the most fabulous extraordinary idea. And once you get some kind of inkling of how that might have happened, it's just wonderful. And . . . the opportunity to spend 70 or 80 years of your life in such a universe is time well spent as far as I am concerned.

I know. Personally, for all its faults, I think that the current system is preferable. It means that we end up with a single party with enough of a majority to get something done most of the time and it keeps the fringe nutters out of running the country. I am not sure that I would like a government that needed to do a deal with the greens, UKIP, or the BNP in order to get legislation through. Still, we'll see what they come up with.

Counting the votes usually takes two-three days, generally it gets to 8 or 9 counts in my constituency, and almost always with the same result.

STF is fun! It makes you want to stay up until 4 in the morning waiting for the results of the 13th count from some god-forsaken part of the country that you wouldn't normally give tuppence for.
