what bothers me mightily is that given the lack of forceful reactions yesterday, the USA have not instantly become the pariah state frump deserves to rule (well, what he really deserves is to end his days in Abu Ghraib with lynndie england for a warden, but that's another matter)... and that by the assessment of various people, if he invades canada or greenland, NATO will implode rather than turning on him.

10% of China's oil imports come from Venezuela, but that accounts for 90% of Venezuela's oil exports. The remaining 10% of exports are mainly spread around the Carribbean - predominantly to Cuba, who imports oil mostly from Venezuela and Mexico. Cuba re-exports a chunk of that, giving it access to international dollars it can use for further imports. At the press conference Trump said Cuba had been added the list, saying the US's interest was similar to Venezuela, "in the sense that we want to help the people in Cuba". Blockading and/or seizing Venezuelan oil severely impacts Cuba's economy and its energy security, which is already in a perilous state. China on the other hand can probably weather the disruption.

Whether the Trump regime will embark on military intervention in Cuba though, well... who knows? Stephen Miller's already made a lot of noise about going into Mexico.
