Re: The Civil War Within Skepticism
I started off not giving a fuck about all this but now I'm intrigued as to how it's all going to turn out.

Re: The Civil War Within Skepticism
And, regarding the false DMCA issue.... it has, apparently, been confirmed that "Surly Amy" (the chick who makes ceramic jewelry, and then stated that conferences should have rules that say that nobody else can sell ceramic jewelry except her...), was the chick who filed the "false DMCA" claim.... http://elevatorgate.wordpress.com/2012/ ... a-notices/
Interestingly, as with just about everything Skepchicks do, there is to be one rule for everyone else, and another rule for them. Surly Amy objects to someone picturing her jewelry on a blog in order to comment, discuss and critique it -- hence the DMCA claim she filed. But, she believes that she can use the Namco Pacman copyrighted and trademarked designs on her jewelry....http://www.etsy.com/listing/99261745/i- ... eramic-pac
This is classic: http://atheiststoday.com/articles.php?article_id=23
So, let's take it from the top:
Surly Amy -- manufactures Surly Ramics (aka, crappy ceramic jewelry) and she hawks them at atheist and skeptic events -- for a (*gasp*) "profit." LOL -- she invests her capital, creates a product, sells it on the open market, and derives a profit....what an evil person she is....
She doesn't want anyone else to be able to sell ceramic jewelry at skeptic and atheist events, because, I guess anything other than "Surly-authorized" jewelry is verboten, especially if it parodies her....
Nevertheless, without a license from the copyright owner, she feels she can market and sell jewelry with copyrighted commercial images on them...
Got it, Surly Amy -- another example of Skepchicklogic.

Ok this is not the DMCA notice from the Youtubes of Girlwriteswhat.
Ani, I think there's around 40 of them.

What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

:heh: pwned.
I read earlier that someone (I forget who, now.) claimed they were going to set an attourney on Youtube because their automated DMCA complaints procedure is open to abuse such as that employed by certain unscrupulous parties (to try to obtain personal info).
Is this likely to succeed, do you think?

Doubtful. What they might be able to do by initiating the action, though, is get solid confirmation on who the persons are that filed the DMCA claims.JacksSmirkingRevenge wrote::heh: pwned.

I said that earlier, but my post was jinxed by being the last on the page.
