My main reason for staying there, I'd really miss some of those people if I lost contact with them. I always feel, though, if I post any kind of a quip or anything not wholly serious or narrowly on-topic elsewhere that there's dead silence afterward and get the sense I'm being stared down at a bit scornfully. It's just a mood I sense... keep things siloed. I find it terribly off-putting.

What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

That's the nail on the head - I feel cursed dragging a tumbleweed behind me oftentimes over there. Many's the time I wanted to do a follow-up post after I'd either killed a thread or been ignored, saying, "COME ON, GUYS, lighten the hell up!! 
" But then, they don't have
