Byron gets it right here. I was such a victim in elementary school. I was minding my own business standing in the schoolyard when the local bully, Jon Williams (he died in prison so I'm stating his name) jumped me from behind and pushed me face down in the gravel and proceeded to punch me and grind my face into the gravel. When the principle showed up, he took us to his office and gave us BOTH "swats" with a paddle for "fighting" without even bothering to ask what happened. That injustice has stayed with me my whole life and it's one of the reasons that I became a police officer and why I was always fair, just and respectful with people I had to ticket or arrest.

And that was way back in 1962.

I was bullied my whole school career, being the nerdy fat kid, including being bullied by a track coach after I broke both wrists during wrestling practice (he ended up getting fired), and the one time I fought back, in the locker room, while in my jock strap, I got pounded anyway and got a black eye. My whole family was "proud" that I got a black eye because it showed I fought back. I felt really stupid for getting socked in the eye and resolved to find ways to avoid getting socked in the eye again, which include tolerance, compassion, sarcasm, joking, judo, karate, boxing and learning the most important lesson of street fights: There is no such thing as a "fair fight." If you get attacked, you defend yourself with everything you have and as much unmitigated violence as is required to make your attacker stop, and if he gets permanently fucked up in the process, well, he won't do that again to anyone else.

I agree with what Mick said completely as well.

It's not about blaming the victim, it's about teaching the victim not to be a victim again, which does indeed instill many of those positive traits he refers to. I'm not at all opposed to universal middle-school Krav Maga training for boys and girls.

The more things change, the more they remain the same.

I also think Weaver deserved what he got and needs to take a pill.

You should learn to distinguish between "troll" and "attack." Just because you get mad and stamp your feet like a three year old doesn't mean your opponent is "trolling" you, it just means you're acting like a child.

I trolled a guy to death once. A retired Army major who worked for Lockheed, consulting or tech writing or something on infantry training. I'd call him out on his fucked up armchair strategizing and his total drooling dedication and devotion to the same US Army that shat him out 20 years previous. I think he actually keeled over in front of his computer at home.

Of course, he was 6'2" and ~350lbs, but that didn't matter to the rest of the site. They booted me and dedicated the site to his memory.

I'm surprised to hear that Seth was bullied at school. I have never envisioned him as an alpha male, but he's strong willed and more intelligent in some aspects than most people. I wouldn't have expected that he got taken advantage of. But this probably could explain some of his crazy beliefs, particularly about guns and self-defence, that he holds now. It's a funny old world. I was a bit of a bully in school (not the worst by far, but enough that I am ashamed of it) and I've turned out to be the peace loving (well, not really ) compassionate leftist. Seth has turned into the bully. But I'm still proud that even though I'm not a bully any more (well, I am to conservatives, but they deserve it ), I can still call on my aggressive side to defend myself. And one more thing... I grew out of being a bully. No one ever actually put me in my place or anything. I thankfully simply matured and grew out of it.
