Forbidden Quote

Post by egbert » Sun Mar 07, 2010 10:22 pm

On RDF, a claim was made about the advancement of optics during the Dark Ages. I asked the OP for evidence.
This was the reply I got (from a fellow atheist!):

"I'd give you some references, but since I know you won't even bother to read them I think I'll save myself the effort."

So, I put this quote, verbatim, in my SIG, and added the comments "Where have I heard this before? Ever debated a Fundy?"

I didn't call the OP a Fundy, just pointed out the FACT that this is a well known copout often used by debaters of the
Fundy persuasion, having personally been the recipient of said claim many a time.

Lo and behold, I am PM'd by a MODERATOR warning me that this constitutes a PERSONAL ATTACK on the OP!
Wow. Imagine - quoting someone verbatim is a personal attack against them! I certainly hope none of you have
ever quoted Richard Dawkins.

How hilarious. Oasis of clear thinking? That's when I left. And now I hear the cessp, er, oasis is to be drained.
They should clear out the alligators first.

Let me put it this way - I'm a bit suspicious of an atheist who claims

The Dark Ages never happened

Galileo was the author of his own misfortune

The advancement of science owes much to religion

The Inquisition wasn't really that bad.

Um the dark ages were only dark in some places and looking back

Galileo kind of knew what would happen if he published Copernicus's ideas .

On a global scale the inquisition was as bad as a mild winter flu .

Almost all "scientists " were religious at the time ..
