Sometimes I'm visible, sometimes I'm not. I am inconsistent. It is a pain to have to worry about being accused of lurking because I left the window open in my browser or whatever.

these days i just stay visible and leave the game open in a tab. I've been doing this for a few games now regardless of alignment so i'm hoping you guys work out it's a not a tell either way. Anyway that's my solution.

well god forbid you admit that you have a window open with this in your browser, and your kid got on the computer opening another window and not closing yours. In fact, there could be an entire game built around the wifom and fosing that a statement like that creates.

Anyone care to educate us on how the forum SW handles open connections that are inactive for a long period? Do they remain "online" or is there some time after which they are considered moot?

5 minutes of inactivity and you no longer show as online.

The world is a thing of utter inordinate complexity and richness and strangeness that is absolutely awesome. I mean the idea that such complexity can arise not only out of such simplicity, but probably absolutely out of nothing, is the most fabulous extraordinary idea. And once you get some kind of inkling of how that might have happened, it's just wonderful. And . . . the opportunity to spend 70 or 80 years of your life in such a universe is time well spent as far as I am concerned.

Unless you're on the index page, where the shitbox refreshes at very close, regular intervals.
