The same volcano erupted for about two years in the 19th century. That would be quite interesting. I wonder what other means of transport would be invented out of necessity...

I might be able to make an engine that's powered by steam. Maybe if we could put this engine onto a horse drawn carriage, and then have it run along a specially designed road. Long iron girders mayhaps?
I could build lots of them and we'd need operators to operate them. We need some people to train.....

What do you guys think? I'm off to start drawing up some plans.

I'm not sure either idea will solve the trans-Atlantic quandary ... not without some long bridges or tunnels, anyway.Feck wrote:Ask TA he has a large train set !!Deep Sea Isopod wrote:Well, there's an idea in my head at the moment, kinda buzzing around.Samuel wrote:The same volcano erupted for about two years in the 19th century. The public transport in this country is in desperate need of an upgrade anyway. The technology already exists - Maglev trains are so much more efficient than aircraft and could potentially reach similar speeds. The question is - would any government invest in such a large scale infrastructure change?Deep Sea Isopod wrote:Well, there's an idea in my head at the moment, kinda buzzing around.Samuel wrote:The same volcano erupted for about two years in the 19th century. With the trans-Atlantic problem, bridges and tunnels are an option but again - massive initial investment.
[Disclaimer - if this is comes across like I think I know what I'm talking about, I want to make it clear that I don't. I'm just trying to get my thoughts down]
