Need recommendations - Britpop

Post by Chinaski » Mon May 25, 2009 8:10 am

So I've been listening nonstop to What's The Story, Morning Glory? by Oasis, and since I'm relatively new to the genre, I was wondering if some of the brits here could give me some good advice on bands and albums to start with for the rest of the genre. The conservatory here, for some odd reason, has a sizable collection of Oasis, Blur and Manic Street Preachers CDs.

Where to start?

Any albums to recommend for Pulp? I'll definitely check 'em out.

If they have the Manics, then

or

are IMHO, a good place to start.

Yes to the first of these but the second is meh! I'd recommend you get The Holy Bible, or the new album, Journal for Plague Lovers.

Elastica
Black Grape
Shed Seven
Suade
Supergrass

If you're going to try Black Grape you should probably have a go at Happy Mondays too.

I own Holy Bible and Journal for Plague Lovers already, I was wondering about some other recommendations. But thanks! I'll definitely check all of the proposals out systematically.

Yes, someone on another site did recommend the Stone Roses as well. I got the albums, just haven't gotten around to listening to them yet.

I'm pondering sending a servant out to purchase this new "Manic Street Preachers" wax cylinder. Is it of merit? Would the grandees of the Rationalia club recommend it?

Absolutely, my good sir. A finer purpose of expenditure and benefit of capitalism you could not find.
