Re: Which webcam do I want?
Depends what you want it for. If you're looking for something that will take decent video footage, double as a web cam, and won't break the bank, then this little gadget could be what you're looking for.
If you're looking to get really up close and personal with something, to the point of endoscopy, then see how small cameras can be made now. If you want an insect's eye view of the world, these people could help - they make a CMOS camera small enough to glue onto the back of a large butterfly.
If you're just looking for a regular web cam, and don't intend shooting any specialist footage, the choice is, of course, immense. However, I get the feeling you're looking for a web cam that's wolf proof. Something with a little ruggedness built in. Either that, or cheap enough not to worry about if one of the wolves tries to bite a chunk out of it.
In the second case, here in the UK, Asda (which is now part of the Wal-Mart empire) sells a web cam for just £5 ($8 in American money), which does an adequate job and handles low lighting conditions surprisingly well. If Wal-Mart in the USA sells the same camera, this could be what you're looking for, if you want something cheap enough for you not to worry about if a wolf decides to throw a hissy fit at it. As for the rugged option, try tapping on the shoulder of someone who's just come back from Iraq or Afghanistan, and see what they recommend by way of battlefield capable cameras. You might even avail yourself of some military surplus gear that'll shrug off mortar rounds, let alone a wolf, and all you'll have to expend is a little back scratching in return (or ply the Army boys with some decent Scotch) ...

Heh, with some of the camera gear I've pointed 'Zilla to, he could probably arrange to eavesdrop on the Queen ... though he might want to consider what's likely to happen if he's traced ...

I have a different plan for it, tho.

The one I ordered was about $14. 12 MP. With that, you will eliminate the blur and fuzziness for your Skype partners. They'll be able to see you in great detail...oh, wait. NVM. Get the cheapest you can find.

Re: Which webcam do I want?
Heh, my £5 Asda webcam is adequate for Skype. If you can find the Wal-Mart equivalent, it should cost you about $8. Everest System Checker on my PC lists it as "PC Camer@" (with an @ replacing the a), so if you go hunting for that, you might find Wal-Mart sells the same piece of kit. If they do, as I said, it should cost you no more than $8, and comes with the driver software.
Alternatively, give this the once over. $7.99 to you, sir, free shipping, and when you flip through the images, it appears to have a microphone lead attached to it too, which means it has its own built-in microphone if you want to use that. Also has 6 LED lights at the front to give you a spooky look when you're chatting in the dark.
