Foreign wives are a benefit, through exogamy.

Now a real benefit would be to require that the whole British royal family is only permitted to marry foreign spouses. Preferably of a different 'race'. The improvement would be dramatic!
For every human action, there is a rationalisation and a reason. Only sometimes do they coincide.

Ever heard of what the Spanish Habsburgs were? or why the Bourbons had such problems with succession because when there was one reasonably healthy ruler, all his male descent, possibly over 2 generations, tended to predecease him?

and given those folk took wives that usually were fairly close family, even if they fetched her from a limited number of countries (France, Spain, Italy, Germany/Austria), that doesn't count as "foreign" wives... Doesn't change a fact that Louis XIV's Grand Dauphin had precisely 4 great grandparents, all of whom already suffered from consanguinity issues.

The Queen married a foreigner... look at the descent.

Kate Middleton may lack class, but I guess the kids will look a lot better than the generation of their paternal grandparents.

Exogamy is more an exchanging of wives of the same race but different villages or settlements to prevent close inbreeding. These settlements were basically a large extended family and everyone was closely related. Similar to the laws we have forbidding the marriage of cousins.

I'm taking about the population as a whole, not a tiny inbred ruling class.

Heard of villages where 'foreign' means, from more than 20 miles away, and where everybody is mmore or less related to everybody else, even though it's generally not done to marry your first cousin ?

Yeah, the kind that haz an idiot, or a half dozen for the larger ones.

How the fuck do you dilute a pool?
Can you dilute a pool of water by adding water? No.
Nor can you dilute a gene pool by adding genes.
What absolute bollocks.

I love it when people who know fuck-all try to sound knowledgeable.
While there is a market for shit, there will be assholes to supply it.

Water isn't the only thing in a pool. You can have a pool of trained welders and dilute it by adding more untrained welders.

:hilarious:

Oh man, I love that. Who's theories plz.... I'd love to read the wiki on that.
I believe that what he's actually saying is that it was one of the theories itself that led to the downfall of Portugal and Spain.

Indeed, if you could concentrate such theorizing in a small area, I'm sure it would be quite deadly, or at least, harmful to one's chances for procreation.
