Yes, but see my post above about "cheating". The in-flight refueling was done by tankers staged at forward bases at various points of the flight path. For the "Black Buck" missions, both the bombers and tankers were staged out of Ascension island. It meant tankers refueling other tankers, just to get one bomber over the target.

You're not going to like my answer... Neoliberalism. Off-shoring maintenance work to the developing world, and also sacking thousands of maintenance and safety workers.

2. You're making a big assumption about my views around offshoring and outsourcing. As someone who has actually delivered projects to outsource and offshore operations, my view is that, in general, they rarely achieve what it was hoped that they'd achieve in terms of cost efficiencies. We are now seeing a trend of "onshoring", where businesses have found that their outsourcing project has not worked, and they're bringing it back onshore.

More often then not, quality plummets, customer loyalty and brand identity is severely damaged, and excessive costs are incurred.

Sometimes it is necessary in order to save a company, and the remaining jobs. It is never an enjoyable task, and you feel a heavy responsibility for those who lose their jobs.

In the immediate aftermath of such a change, families are often left in disastrous situations financially. But it isn't always acase of greedy shareholders and rapacious directors. (Although sometimes it is. I am glad I've not had to work on that kind of project).

However, I have done this kind of work, the firms involved had sufficient cash to pay extremely good redundancy packages, and we had a flood of volunteers who were eager to take it.

As for what you call neoliberalism, I think it is more akin to mercantilism, which is a nefarious combination of military force and private business.

As for the neocons, scratch the surface and you'll find a classic monopolist protectionist masquerading as a liberal.
