William Wallace? A woad-smeared, thistle-arsed barbarian. We'd have strapped the bugger to a cannon in my day.

They did a pretty thorough "software upgrade" on him at the end of the Gibson movie. Was that bit anything close to reality?

I don't think anything in that movie bore any resemblance to reality....apart from the bit where Wallace calls Princess Isabelle "sugar tits"...

The last significant invasion of UK soil was 1066, that was 943 years ago, only 57 years to the millennial anniversary of that date. I wonder if we'll make there unscathed?

I doubt I'll still be around, unless they get those damned nano-bots to work.....

That was disturbing to me. I dont really know how I feel about watching people get killed. I know the taliban are bad but to someone like myself who wont even kill a fly unless I have to it was weird.
I'm wild just like a rock, a stone, a tree
And I'm free, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I flow, just like a brook, a stream, the rain
And I fly, just like a bird up in the sky
And I'll surely die, just like a flower plucked
And dragged away and thrown away
And then one day it turns to clay
It blows away, it finds a ray, it finds its way
And there it lays until the rain and sun
Then I breathe, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I grow, just like a baby breastfeeding
And it's beautiful, that's life

That makes you a very normal person, Pluto. Killing is hard to watch, and harder to do. Lucky for the human race.

Hence the military predilection for killing at range. The further removed and more "unreal" it gets the easier it is to rationalise.

The easier it is to rationalise and the greater the distance, the more likely it is to happen? We used to dehumanise our opponents, call them pigs or monkeys, now we just turn them into pixels....

Indeed so.

I occasionally play a game which let's me fly an AC-130 Gunship. I also have the actual footage this mission was based on (or at least a similar mission). Scary, very scary.

I regret the need to do this sort of thing but holy fuck that's the way to go about it. If you can wipe large sections of your enemy out without getting within an asses roar of them then the demoralising effect could end up saving lives in the long run. They should have let the last guy go, however, just so he could tell his mates what happened. I like to consider myself something of a pacifist but, yeah, fuck the taliban.
At least I'm housebroken.
