If it adapts and survives then it has a chance to pass its genes along to the next generation. If it does not adapt and dies instead, its genes are lost.

I don't think you understand natural selection very well. A giraffe is born with a slightly longer neck, is able to eat and therefore reproduce more, and so makes more longer-necked giraffes. The giraffe did not alter his DNA by stretching its neck higher. It was born with the longer-necked DNA. That DNA survived because it was a beneficial adaptation, and the survival of that DNA made the whole population/species evolve. The individual did not evolve. Individuals can learn and adapt their behavior to the immediate situation, but that has nothing whatsoever to do with evolution, Darwinism or natural selection. It's just learning. What you describe seems more like Lamarckian evolution, which lost the day to Darwin's.

By now, you probably know Mark Kessler, the deranged police chief of tiny Gilberton (population 800) Pennsylvania. He has publicly lambasted the federal government for wanting to take his guns, and he posted some profanity-laced Youtube videos of himself firing semi-automatic weapons.

Kessler was officially suspended for 30 days based on a 5-1 vote by the Gilberton borough council after a nearly-hour long closed door meeting. The reason given was that the weapons in the Youtube videos were borough-owned and Kessler did not have the authorization to fire them.

Kessler and his attorney have not yet decided whether to appeal the decision, but Kessler did have this to say: “I make no apologies and have no regrets.”

Protesters caused a ruckus outside of the meeting, with some Kessler defenders carrying guns and dressed militia-style, and others holding signs that read “Impeach Obama, Kessler for President”.

Michael Morrill, executive director of Keystone Progress, summed it up best.

“It’s not about vulgarity. … It’s not about guns. … It’s about a rogue police chief.”

Indeed. Kessler should not even be employed, in this blogger’s opinion. His actions are unprofessional and unbecoming for a police chief.
