I think you need to look again. It's odds-on for a no vote.

Not that that reflects the real chances. It's just a reaction to the money already bet, and the current betting.
But you can obviously treble your money, if you put the house on a yes vote.
It's actually a tempting bet, now.

Dark forces at work. Scotland is to become a neo-liberals wet dream of a labrat. They think the good man is offering them sweeties. :whisper:

I don't understand the betting odds still being so strong for a no vote.
It's very tempting to have a bet on yes. You have to respect the pollsters and the science behind them. I guess I'm just not a born gambler.
Or I don't like betting against the bookies. They've been in the business for too long for the likes of me to make money off them.

I'm now at the point where I'm hoping for a yes vote. The entertainment value of a yes vote would be much higher than a no. And the labour party in the UK will have a severe reality check when they look at the numbers without Scotland.

And Ironically, Scotland will find itself with Tories in power in London for years to come. If they think that won't affect them, I think they are mistaken.

It just occurred to me that the Scottish Banks might not wait to fail till after independence, which would be a bummer. But if the UK has to bail them out, the newly Independent Scotland should get the entire bill, as it would be totally down to them.

Jeez, I just don't understand betting.

I just looked, and no is still 1 to 4 odds on, with Ladbrooks and the others are very similar.
Yes is 3 to 1 against.

If you bet the house, in three days time, you could own four houses, if Scotland votes for independence.

I'm obviously no gambler, or I would be betting every penny on yes. It's fantastic odds, for a vote that is so close. What am I missing? Why aren't the hardened gamblers piling in on it?

I've never been more confused.

The odds reflect not only the perceived likelihood of the outcomes*, but also what people are actually backing. There must be substantially less money placed on a Yes vote at present, for the bookies to be offering such attractive odds.

*The very latest polls are about 52-48 in favour of No, with the usual health warnings about error margins.

Alex Salmond has been saying that he's confident of a yes vote.

He seems to lie for fun. He doesn't seem to see anything wrong with it. He's not fucking confident, or he'd sell his house and put the lot on a yes vote. Obviously very few people are ''confident'' enough to bet on yes, for the odds to remain that solid on a no.

Having said that, I'm still hoping it's a yes vote. It won't do me any harm at all, and should be thoroughly entertaining.
