You're not being reasonable, we got millions of unemployed and useless people here, a nonnegligible part of them being African immigrants that are parasites, I thought sending them back to be useful home would be good, now, if you want to send Gabonese to Benin and Senegalese to Ivory coast, that can be arranged... but we can't feed everybody to do nothing, and I guess that using locals to transmit our development expertise would make the message more pervasive.

Working class families in Middlesbrough don't give a shit about Empire. You can't keep pinning the referendum result on little Englanders - it's as ridiculous as the cold-hearted Rees-Moggs of the right declaring that everyone who voted Leave voted for their vision of Brexit.

Actually nobody I can think of does. The Empire’s last dregs died over 50 years ago and they'd been gasping for 30 before that and there’s many a 30 year old who hardly is aware we ever had one.

I think you can sum up the ‘leave’ Collection of reasons for voting that way as ‘we want our country back’, for good or ill.
