There were dick pics, but no-one said that it was censored for that. Twitter internal emails never even tried, that I remember.

Why they censored it? Well, to keep people from knowing something, I would guess.

The business connections to Ukraine and Chinese businesses were more concerning to some people worried about energy companies being skeezy with the First Family.

And what does all this have to do with media bias? Twitter isn't the media.

Twitter is the platform which has been opened up to scrutiny, at least a bit. We heard Zuckerberg admit to Rogan that he had warnings from the feds about 'russian disinfo', which caused him to limit the reach of that story on his platform, but that was a bit vague, and too easy to excuse.

These are the internal emails about censoring that story, between the people implementing the decisions.

One platform - twitter - is partly available to examine. The others are surely all squeaky-clean, but twitter clearly had US intel influencing their moderation choices.

If you want to hold on to your opinion that twitter isn't a hotbed of leftism or whatever, please just tell me that you know who Yoel Roth is, his position at twitter, and the subject of his Phd thesis.

Maybe he did one on immunology, or some other prestigious and unbiased science. I just want to know that you know.

Here is the omitted link. According to the reporting, the Biden administration did communicate with Twitter about COVID misinformation. The Trump administration also communicated with Twitter but it appears they more concerned about trying to suppress information about panic-buying at shops.

Whatever, there is apparently legitimate information presented by Musk's pet reporters even if you ignore their blatant editorialising. When Zweig says 'true but inconvenient to U.S. govt. policy' he is referring generally to people who blare about the 'DANGER of the COVID vaccinations,' pointing to adverse reactions. It appears that the Biden administration considered these tweets to be misinformation (and Twitter agreed) because the vaccination alarmists failed to acknowledge that adverse reactions are exceedingly rare.

The question of whether the Biden administration had any business talking to Twitter about its moderation in regard to COVID is legitimate. It is unlikely that anybody will get an honest discussion of that issue with the fellow who claims to be so concerned about it.

Anyway, social media are media, and I think discussion of bias in social media is a legitimate part of this thread.

I remember in the olden times, ads for drugs on US Television had to include lists of potential side-effects for all drugs advertised.

In my opinion it is legitimate to acknowledge the potential harm, not so legitimate to focus on potential harm without acknowledging the extreme rarity of its occurrence. That is simply scare-mongering. The vaccines have proven to be rather effective at preventing severe illness and death. I consider it irresponsible and definitely harmful to try to scare people away from them. To promote adverse reactions without promoting their rarity is also definitely misinformation.

If a government is trying to minimise harm to its citizens (for economic reasons or because it has a constitutional responsibility to promote the general welfare of the people) it has a legitimate interest in taking measures to counter such misinformation. According to the reporting, the Biden administration encouraged Twitter to cooperate by following Twitter's own policy regarding mis/disinformation about COVID. Do you think the administration was out of line to do so?
