Honest opinions...

Post by dj357 » Thu Feb 25, 2010 1:46 pm

Hi all,

I'm bearing my musical soul here and I want honest, constructive comments and opinions on the demo work from my Metal band Thirst For Destruction.

I'm in the process of moving from simple multi-track recording on my PC to using a proper mixer setup with Cubase and all the bells and whistles for recording our stuff, and the drum tracks in our songs so far aren't of the greatest quality, so please reserve your comments on the quality of the recordings (if you can :P) as I know they could sound way better sound-wise, but it's the music I'm looking for your comments on, if'n ye don't be mindin' dya know?

http://www.myspace.com/thirst4destruction - my personal favourite track is "The Prospector" simply because I still can't believe I wrote that solo in less than a half hour

musically it's great, actually i think the drums are really well done. I think you have the vocs up a little loud - and turn the gtrs down a little (i know!). Or just turn the drums and basss up! I use cubase VST (really old) but it has lots of compressors etc that make mixing a lot easier.

I agree with above. I like it musically. The singing not so much, that's not a criticism really though because I generally hate that kind of growling, I generally listen to metal bands that actually sing whether its Metallica, King Diamond, Neurosis, Mastodon, Primordial... or bands that scream rather than growl like 3 Inches of Blood.
But the music is great. I like the riffs.

hmm...well I'm hugely influenced by 3ioB etc... and we're trying to strike a balance between heavy vocals and sung vocals, so that helps! thanks!

If you can get hold of a copy of Reason, that works really well with cubase (runs alongside it) and will vastly increase your sound options, as regards to drum sounds, samplers, synths etc.
