Sex

Post by Deep Sea Isopod » Tue May 25, 2010 11:28 pm

A creatard has just asked how and why gender developed? Any help appreciated.
I've already told him he needs to understand basic evolution first. "Don't walk before you can run" but he's having none of it. And he's promised to STFU if I can provide answers to his 3 questions.

The other two are:
How is the Bible false?
Where did the FIRST molecule\atom from which everything else evolved come from?
I don't think I'll have too much trouble with those though. :hehe:

If I remember correctly, this lecture covers it in quite a lot of detail - though I have slow internet speed right now so I can't check.

Might as well post this again.

OK, taking this a bit further back, how did sexual reproduction evolve in plants? Some Plant's have male and female organs, so what happened?
We've gone from single cells splitting apart in an exact copy, to having male AND female parts.

Sorry, the lecture I linked to doesn't go into as much detail as I thought it did. It briefly covers initial gender divergence but not the origins of sexual reproduction - and I don't think it explains it in enough detail for someone who doesn't already understand evolution.

Plant sexuality looks a lot more complicated than I ever realised too. But I think, once you've got the sharing of genetic code, some form of gender divergence is inevitable, evolving body parts for giving or receiving.

Sharing genes started in very primitive organisms. This video, from the same playlist as the one Ani posted, explains it.

I'm going to have to go and watch the rest of these now.

Great thanks. That'll do. I don't know why I'm doing some other retards homework though. I don't mind giving brief info and corrections, but I've been trawling for ages trying to find "evidence" of this. I'm getting too carried away.

The Creationist Cycle...

1. Ask the atheist/evolutionist questions and feel as if you've won.
2. The atheist/evolutionist answers them all with ease.
3. The creationist is shocked and with that shock completely calls bullshit on the whole thing.
4. Restart with #1.

Good luck with that. :ddpan:
