I'm uncomfortable with censorship of any sort, only because I'm aware of how easily people in power can abuse it. But, on balance, I think the abuse of a right to speak ones mind and push ones beliefs can be just as detrimental to society ...
If we can successfully censor a person for views based on those views being outright lies, hatred and vilification, ie offensive and damaging, why do we not do the same to people who spread the lies and associated vilification and threats in the name of religious belief? I mean the fundamental vilification of humanity and threats about eternal damnation and the superstitious lies which underpin them. This is particularly abhorrent when it is directed at children, yet it is allowed to continue unchallenged by society, even defended as a parental right.

I want to see the actual website itself, or the content. The actual quotes don't strike me as anything deserving of being arrested over. I'm tired of protectionist bullshit, unless there was advocation of aggressive acts there's nothing to arrest him over.
"The fact is that far more crime and child abuse has been committed by zealots in the name of God, Jesus and Mohammed than has ever been committed in the name of Satan. Many people don't like that statement but few can argue with it."

The web site is here, but there is nothing much left to see: "Please be advised that as of midnight on 16 April 2009 Adelaide time we shall display only this home page on account of a legally enforced holiday - Court Order of 2002"born-again-atheist wrote:I want to see the actual website itself, or the content.
Several countries have enacted legislation that makes the act of claiming that the holocaust never happened a criminal offense. Toben has already spent seven months in gaol in Germany and another eleven months in Austria after being found guilty of holocaust denial.born-again-atheist wrote:The actual quotes don't strike me as anything deserving of being arrested over.
As much as I regard Toben - and the dreck he associates with as a reprehensible bunch of lunatics, I am opposed to any holocaust-denial legislation. If governments can make holocaust denial a crime on account of holocaust deniers being egregiously wrong, what next? A law outlawing 9/11 conspiracy theories? Moon-landing denial? Geocentrists and flat-earthers? Anti-blasphemy laws? Whoops, I think those are in the pipeline as we speak.
I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein’s brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops. - Stephen J. Gould
