Abiogenesis and the Complex Cell Solved!

Post by markR » Sat Sep 04, 2010 8:58 pm

Not exactly, but I'm going for the most provocative Subject title here. ;) If not solved it is the most comprehensive set of papers I've seen on the two subjects yet.

What do you think of the papers in the August Journal of Cosmology on Abiogenesis?

A lot of this is building on earlier work, which I've seen discussed in the SGU podcast. The one I found easiest to read was the seventh: "Chance or Necessity? Bioenergetics and the Probability of Life".

Which is natural since after reading his three books "Oxygen: The Molecule That Made the World", "Power, Sex, Suicide: Mitochondria and the Meaning of Life", and "Life Ascending: The Ten Great Inventions of Evolution", I was looking for more of his work. The best biochemistry for the layperson I've read since Asimov, and the equal of Dawkins, Shubin, and Coyne's books on evolution.

Cosmologists are about the last people I'd trust on either abiogenesis or evolutionary biology...

Not even gonna bother reading that crap.

Cosmologists should stick to playing with the physicists and keep their noses out of biology .They Know .... Nothing !

Hi markR. Welcome to the forum. Please head over to the introductions area and let us know something about you. People will be more likely to follow your links and read your posts seriously if we knew a little more about you. What bought you to Ratz?
It's a piece of piss to be cowiz, but it's not cowiz to be a piece of piss. Or something like that.

Thus far, the link appears kosher, and indeed the paper on bioenergetics references recognised work in the field, including at lest one paper by Jack Szostak, who has been involved in abiogenesis research for decades. However, I'm still having a spot of bother checking out the provenance of Michael Russell. Back shortly ...

He's kosher. Turns out his interest is the possibility of applying abiogenesis research centred upon Earth, to other bodies in the universe.
