It seems that some people who try to criticise RatSkep moderation eventually get suspended through frustration and anger. I have no problem looking at it here. Our forum's moderation is where it is by learning through experience and, for me, part of that is observation of what others are doing.

Leave the ratskep drama at ratskep. Nobody cares. We all know they have heavy handed mods.

It's clear that Ratskep's approach to moderation is different to here. They are pretty hard and fast when it comes to implementing the FUA, but that's just the way of it there. I disagree with much of the ethos on that forum, but there is also much about it that I really like so I just go with the flow because I know the mods won't change the entire forum just for me (just as it was here). I know that calling someone a bully/idiot/asshole/insert direct perjorative of choice here is likely to be seen as a personal attack, and that following the accusation up in another post won't go down well either. It's that simple. GreyICE - I know why you were upset, I even agree with much of what you say, but you must have known you were heading for a fall with those two posts.

Ratskep seems to be thriving and it is very much enjoyed by most of the members. I wish we could lay off it a bit - I remember feeling upset when Jack Rawlinson slagged off Rationalia there recently, as were a few other people here. Well, it cuts both ways.

I really, really was quite nice to Cali. What I wrote was what I observed. He wrote a few thousand words devoted to slagging off someone who I like. Even if I didn't know the person, I'd consider the post quite beyond the pale, but given what I know of Gallstones, it was so far out of line that it is staggering. Here's an excerpt:

Meh. I just think it's sad that they don't seem to have learnt from history in some ways. I don't go over there much anymore. When I do, people are usually nice - I even get PMs from members to say hello and whatnot. And I still like the guy who started the forum, too - but it just doesn't do it for me, generally, and it's quite sad to see the odd flare-up of discontent arriving on our doorstep here…

Also: If it is too complicated / intimidating for someone(s) to discuss RatSkep moderation at RatSkep, this subforum is a legitimate place for that discussion. I am really sorry if it feels too complicated / intimidating, but I can understand why, at least partly, and I think it would be even more tragic if there was nowhere to discuss it tolerably comfortably.
