Who is on line.

If people hide their on line status, only mods can see if they are lurking. Surely this gives mod-players an advantage. :lay:

I don't see how.

It seems to be that you are regarded as suspicious if you don't post, even if you are only on line for a short time each day.
If you hide your on line status, you could be on line studying all day and barely post but not get FOSsed because most players can't see you.

Yeah but as mods we can't point out when someone is hidden so we would have to come up with a different reason to FOS.

Yes, it does - I hate it, but there's nothing that can be done about it.

I have played games where anyone caught using their modly powers to reveal information (publicly) about cloaked players' presence online will find themselves godkilled, no arguments, no court of appeal. This can't stop mods from sharing the info with scum team-mates on a writeboard , of course, but it's the best that can be done to discourage it on the public thread.

Why can't one of the conditions to play be that you are 'visible' on line? While game is in session, show your status. When gaem ends, switch back.

Some folks just don't want to be seen, period.
Not being one of them, I can't surmise why. You'd need to ask one of them - oh no, that's right, you can't see them to ask them...

Some people have legitimate non game reasons for being hidden, so we respect that, it isn't really a major factor in finding scum anyway, their posts always give that away.

The world is a thing of utter inordinate complexity and richness and strangeness that is absolutely awesome. I mean the idea that such complexity can arise not only out of such simplicity, but probably absolutely out of nothing, is the most fabulous extraordinary idea. And once you get some kind of inkling of how that might have happened, it's just wonderful. And . . . the opportunity to spend 70 or 80 years of your life in such a universe is time well spent as far as I am concerned.
