Re: Richard Dawkins Forum
As for traffic - yep, it's down. It spent the whole of 2010 slipping slowly, and only had a small 3-month period of growth from around Feb-May this year, since which it has been sputtering… Traffic ain't what it used to be and ain't anywhere near what it would have been if the site was simply left as it was. Even if traffic had simply stagnated since the implimentation of the new site, it would have been enough to raise suspicions that something wrong had been done…
Then they for sudden joy did weep,
And I for sorrow sung,
That such a king should play bo-peep,
And go the fools among.
Prithee, nuncle, keep a schoolmaster that can teach
thy fool to lie: I would fain learn to lie.
And I for sorrow sung,
That such a king should play bo-peep,
And go the fools among.
Prithee, nuncle, keep a schoolmaster that can teach
thy fool to lie: I would fain learn to lie.

Re: Richard Dawkins Forum
what's to expect? the reason the place had so much traffic up to 2009, posters, and those following the posts, disappeared overnight. Maybe the new formula has generated a bit of publicity, but not that many people will be regular comers like there used to be.

Well, yeah, Svartalf - but they also still have people joining all the time, and not all ex forum-goers forsook the new Discussion area. The loss of a number of particular posters doesn't account for the sustained loss of traffic, not on it's own.

“I wish no harm to any human being, but I, as one man, am going to exercise my freedom of speech. No human being on the face of the earth, no government is going to take from me my right to speak, my right to protest against wrong, my right to do everything that is for the benefit of mankind. I am not here, then, as the accused; I am here as the accuser of capitalism dripping with blood from head to foot.”

Who else?

No doubt I'd have eventually got the boot too. I'm not exactly retiring in the face of bullies. I tend to be a bit like a dog with a bone.
I spent the last year and a half in your lovely country. Nice beer.

Re: Richard Dawkins Forum
I'm sad to hear that, especially for those people living in heavily religious areas that may have read one of Richard's books or saw a Youtube clip and would come around and vent what they've been keeping bottled up, get a little validation and breath easier if just for an hour here and there when they can be alone on the net. I suppose that they could look a bit further and find one the forums on their own, but sometimes having a friendly and understanding "voice" just a minute sooner can make a world of difference.lordpasternack wrote:As for traffic - yep, it's down. What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."
