Oh, good. I'm going looking. I sort of worried a bit at the beginning of the last game because I picked a picture of a character who might have turned up as a role. I just liked the big, grouchy looking cat.

As it looks like a smallish game, I'll be in.

fuck it. I am done with my break. In
Outside the ordered universe is that amorphous blight of nethermost confusion which blasphemes and bubbles at the center of all infinity—the boundless daemon sultan Azathoth, whose name no lips dare speak aloud, and who gnaws hungrily in inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond time and space amidst the muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes.

Excellent timing, for me. Friday is my busiest day at work, but Saturday usually ends quite early. I'm trying to think of questions for this game that I can ask here. Last game I played, I got so messed up in regard to the "win condition" situation, that I felt I couldn't ask it in the thread.

So, in general, do Specials get a different PM than Vanilla Town? I mean, I didn't get the usual "you win when all threats to Town are eliminated" or whatnot PM. I was just told my role, with nothing else. Was that because I was Seer, and it was a given?

Also, I made a mistake in the last game by sending in my night action before the end of the Day (because I was sleepy and got confused), and combined with the GM's personal situation, I suspect it in part caused the elimination of a night round. But I wished, wished, wished - almost immediately - that we could have had that Night Chat time to think things through. Is an action necessarily final?

Thanks and cheers to anyone who can help me out with these questions.

Specials do get different PMs from vanilla town, but usually are told they have the same win condition as vanilla town.

When an action is final depends on the GM. And I think you are right that it was an unusual situation in the last game.

My practice is to announce that I'll start a day early if I get all actions in. Then once I have the actions, I wait a few hours before starting the game day (IOW I start the day early, but not as early as possible). I do it this way so that people who watch profiles don't get the scoop on specials or scum. They may THINK they know who had to be the last person to send the night action, but it's highly unlikely they are right due to profile-watching. But, I almost always go with my announced deadline and then start the day within a half hour or so of the deadline passing.

OK, thanks Oblivion. That helps a lot.

I'm also going to say here that I get SO frustrated in almost every game I've played both here and on RatSkep, because almost always someone accuses me of "lurking." What? I realize some people might think I'm a goof because I play a bit too seriously, but I enjoy it. I open a couple of windows, and then I read. I do it as Town and as Scum (because as Scum I also want solid words-on-screen to use in my posts).

I do understand that there could be some sort of tell in the timing both of posts and actions and whatnot, but it sort of creeps me out that I'm totally honest about when I'm online, and still get poked for it. I know some people shield their online status - don't quite get why, and it's none of my business - but the idea that I get the evil eye because I don't... good grief. Ha!

Speaking of profile watching .. I like the FF practice where players are instructed by the GM to use the hidden option while the game is on, because it reduces/eliminates profile stalking and petty/intrusive arguments about why so-and-so is online but not posting, etc. In addition to that, TR and FF have their mafia subforums visible to guests making it possible to read and lurk without being viewed by any admins and mods who are playing. I suggest rationalia make this subforum visible to guests because as it is now staff members who play and can see hidden members have an advantage. Of course, staff will still be able to watch profiles and actions when players login to post in the game, but there's not much to be done about that.

I have no problem with making this subforum visible, if players want that, it will need to be moved though since the games forum is bot & guest free, but that isn't a problem.

As for the possible staff advantage, I will say that I don't ever use that facility while playing in order to watch other players, and I don't think ani does either, AFAIK we're the only 2 staff who play.

You only have my word on that, but outside of stopping playing there is no way around it.

The world is a thing of utter inordinate complexity and richness and strangeness that is absolutely awesome. I mean the idea that such complexity can arise not only out of such simplicity, but probably absolutely out of nothing, is the most fabulous extraordinary idea. And once you get some kind of inkling of how that might have happened, it's just wonderful. And . . . the opportunity to spend 70 or 80 years of your life in such a universe is time well spent as far as I am concerned.
